Faithless - Insomnia (Official 4K Video)
Summary
A 1995 British dance record with a spoken, almost muttered vocal from Maxi Jazz over a long instrumental build. The famous element is the delay: the track withholds its main melodic figure for minutes, and the release when it arrives is the entire point.
The structure is a club structure, written for a room and a DJ rather than for radio, which is why the edited versions have always felt like compromises.
Why it matters
It is one of the defining British dance records of the nineties and a standard demonstration of tension and release as compositional tools. Its long build became a template that trance and progressive house used for the following decade.
